Rachel joined the Avantgarde team in June of 2011. She graduated from the Douglas J Aveda Institute in April of 2011. Rachel enjoys working with a variety of clients offering trendy haircuts, color, nails and facials.

For two consecutive years, Avantgarde has been awarded ‘Top Hair Salon in Grand Rapids’ by The Grand Rapids Press in an MLive.com readership poll, along with awards for Top Nail Salon and Top Day Spa. “To receive such an honored distinction as Top Hair Salon during our first year of business was truly an amazing achievement,” say salon owner, Bonnie Moore. “But to receive the same award two years in a row, along with two additional ‘Tops’ awards, is a testament to the continued excellence of my team and our mission to ‘Make a Difference’”

As Avantgarde has grown throughout the past year, so has their list of services and new products. In 2011, Avantgarde added the full line of Aveda hair products for men and woman, and they now feature a certified specialist for Great Lengths Hair Extension. In addition, they have added services for feather extensions, LOX Hair Extensions and a revolutionary series of Botanical Hair and Scalp Therapies featuring the new Aveda Hero product, Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair.

The birth of Avantgarde Salon & Spa was born out of tragedy but has grown to great success. Following the sudden death of her husband in 2006, owner Bonnie Moore, of Ada, needed to find a passion and purpose and wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. As a client of the salon, with no industry experience, Moore purchased both salons with a simple vision, to Make a Difference. After several renovation projects, acquisition of new and exclusive product lines and the addition of a small boutique, Avantgarde has establish itself as one of the finest salon and day spas in West Michigan.

Marianne has been with Avantgarde since July of 2011. She graduated of from The French Academy and went on to become the Michigan Educator for Spa Girl. Marianne specializes in the Spa Girl PowerDerm™ Kinetic Dermabrasion as well as various peels. Her specialty enables her to assist clients with skin issues such as rosacea, acne, broken capillaries, discoloration, and more. In addition, Marianne works extensively as a regional makeup artist with major companies such as Estee Lauder, Dior, and Clairins.

        
Avantgarde stylist, Jodi Schmalz, recently submitted creative hair styles in three categories for the 2011 Tiffany Awards prestigious Michigan Hairdresser of the Year Award. Jodi was the only West Michigan stylist selected as a finalist to compete in a runway competition that was held on October 2nd, in Detroit, MI. Congratulations Jodi!

Maria graduated as a licensed Cosmetologist in 2003 and joined the team at Avantgarde in April of 2011. She is a licensed esthetician and has also received training with Kemon Hair Color, Shellac Nails and Keratin Brazilian Smoothing. Maria enjoys attending continue education to stay up to date on the latest trends, styles and color techniques. She specializes in short cuts, razor cuts and the Ombre Effect and says she most enjoys the creative side of her job.

Brooke graduated from Douglas J Aveda Institute in December of 2010. She joined the Avantgarde team in April of 2011. Brooke is well versed in the Aveda Hair Care Line and has received training in Shellac Nails and Lox Hair Extensions. She specializes in haircuts, color services, hair extensions, nails and facials.
